Patrik, the co-founder of the Thong Dee Phuket brand expects that more of the local Thais, expats and tourists will happily welcome this convenience, comparative to the original location in Kathu, which has earned its own success as an off-the-beaten-track dining destination but has always proven a challenge at attracting a wider spectrum of the market here in Phuket..

The Bistro comes under the banner of  “Starters – Salads – Steaks – Sweets”, keeping the homely classic and deliciously simple offerings of the Kathu Brasserie menu, but without the additional of an extensive menu which includes a Kids Menu and Thai dishes. Patrik goes on further to explain “

The Bistro is more quaint in size but more “grown up”. No kids menu, no traditional Thai dishes, but good, wholesome European classics with Chef Phonchan’s original touches and some of my menu ideas”. Patrik also promises value for money as the menu intends to be in the affordable and accessible range, counting on repeat visits, multiple course meals and positive word of mouth.

The open-front shop house restaurant is a striking view from the road with it’s warm glow, bold chequered tiles, window partitioned dining area and walls which hang colourful chalkboards that list affordable wines and weekly specials. Some of Patrik’s favourite pieces by local artists are also framed and displayed along the walls which he proudly introduces diners to each one, and explain their meaning.

When asked about the style difference between the two restaurants, Patrik said, ”the ambiance is also more hip and it is the place you go to have a long relaxed meal or to have a couple of wines or beers before you hit the Town. It’s also has a lovely cosiness and warmth, so you can go on date or just have a chill dinner with friends or colleagues“.

In the most furthest part of the dining room sits the tiniest kitchen, where you will find the ever-radiant Chef Phonchan, who has some genuinely mean cooking skills behind that smile. Trained by both her mother and a European Michelin Restaurant Chef, Chef Phonchan has made a mark for herself as the Buriram born-and-bred Thai who come to Phuket over 8 years ago with her husband Patrik, to open a restaurant, which has become a local sensation. Thong Dee – The Kathu Brasserie has been fluctuating from #1 and #2 ranking spot in Phuket on TripAdvisor for many years now.

The Thong Dee – The Kathu Brasserie is where Chef Phonchan developed and honed her skills to which International fans come to far and wide to experience her cuisine which range from Swedish Meatballs to Gambas “Pil Pil” and her signature Phat Krapao Ped (Duck with Spicy Basil Leaves) . Chef Phonchan is truly a versatile Chef who has mastered classics from all over the world but with her unique twist. Now, that the couple have expanded to Phuket Town, it is likely their brand of cuisine and restaurant style will become more recognised, with plans to expand further into other regions of Thailand and even Internationally.
