El Santo, Thailand’s Hottest New Mexican Dining & Drinking Establishment by Soho Hospitality
Inspired by the heart-pounding aura of Lucha Libre culture and celebrating the very best of authentic Mexican flavours – officially opens on January 8th, 2024. The fiery, dynamic venue is home to Thailand’s largest selection of tequilas and places a strong emphasis on exceptional food and beverage, complemented by spirited entertainment, to create an exceptional dining experience. The one-of-a-kind entertainment dining establishment is conceived and managed by the award-winning Soho Hospitality team, the name behind some of Bangkok’s best-loved venues.
“We cannot wait to captivate Bangkok with the true spirit of Mexico, presented at El Santo. Me and the rest of the team have spent countless hours and have poured an immense amount of passion into this project; the result is Bangkok’s boldest Mexican establishment, which truly celebrates authentic Mexican culture and flavour. We are confident that the concept will strongly resonate with guests and become Bangkok’s most happening entertainment dining venue,” said Rohit Sachdev, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Soho Hospitality.
With over 65 bottles on offer, El Santo presents Thailand’s largest collection of tequilas and mezcals, cementing its commitment to celebrating Mexico and creating unforgettable (depending on how many tequila shots you indulge in!) occasions. Highlights include 100% Blue Weber agave tequila, a range of Montelobos mezcals, including Montelobos Pechuga, which is distilled for the third time with turkey breast, seasonal fruits and spices.
Straight spirits aside, guests can indulge in a ‘Margarita At Your Table’ service, whereby the Marg experience is personalized with changeable tequilas and mezcals. Guests can also select from Triple Sec, Grand Marnier, Blue Curcao or Cherry Liqueur, as well as opt to add fruity nectars – such as pineapple, coconut, or pomegranate – for a truly personalized concoction. Margaritas are mixed tableside, creating a dynamic and immersive experience.
El Santo’s expert bar team further celebrate the defining Mexican flavours of tequilas and mezcals through the signature cocktail menu, highlights of which include Fight Me Like A Man (Tequila, Mezcal, Hibiscus, Chipotle, Anotto and Lime), On The Ropes (Tequila, Mezcal, Corn, Pineapple and Coconut), and Blue Demon (Tequila, Blue Pea Tea, Grapefruit Soda, Spiced Agave and Lime).
With over a decade of expertise and a deep passion for Mexican flavours from celebrated lifestyle restaurants such as Rosa Negra and Cantina La Veinte, Chef Daniel Calderón Camacho has crafted a menu that’s a fusion of tradition and innovation. Every dish at El Santo is a knockout, inspired by the bold and spicy flavours of Mexico.
Perfect for lighter bites to pair with agave-based cocktails, El Santo’s raw bar menu features the likes of Maya Ceviche – a refreshingly authentic Mexican ceviche of Seabass, with red onion, tomato, avocado and coriander – and Sashimi de Sandia – grilled watermelon sashimi, goats cheese pearly covered with sesame seeks, jalapeno flakes and ponzu sauce. Channelling the vibrance of Mexico, starters include Sopa de Tortilla – tomato base, deep fried tortilla julienne, panela cheese, avocado and chile ancho – and Huarache de Wagyu – classic refried beans given an El Santo twist with the addition of avocado puree, wagyu rib eye, chorizo, melted cheese, blue dough.
Highlights of the main course selection include Langostinos al Ajillo – tiger prawns, guajillo rub, garlic, chili de arbol flakes and olive oil – and Salmon en Tamarindoo – grilled salmon (250g) marinate in tamarind sauce, served on a bed of spinach, cherry tomatoes, and yellow corn.
The Mexican dining experience would not be complete without a selection of Tacos and Quesadillas; El Santo’s include the Quesa-Birria – short rib slow cooked filled tortillas with cheese, cumin, chocolate, oregano, laurel and traditional Mexican consomme – and Tacos de Jamaica – deep-fried taquitos filled with cooked Jamaica flower, white onion, garlic, served with cream, lettuce, cheese and green salsa.
Chef Daniel’s pièce de resistance, though, is from the grill menu; Mole Seabass is cooked for up to 6 hours, and is grilled with 6 types of chillies. The resulting flavour is smokey, as opposed to spicy, with Mexican spiced chocolate. Classic desserts include Churros de Canela – the sweet, puffy favourite is served with chocolate and caramel milk and chocolate dip for true indulgence – and Tres Leches with Peaches.
El Santo’s energetic aesthetic is inspired by the pulsating energy of Mexican wrestling rings. It unapologetically embraces a riot of colours and combines them with rugged industrial elements, creating a high-voltage atmosphere that electrifies the entire space.
El Santo offers a trio of distinctive spaces for guests to explore: an indoor dining area with a captivating show kitchen, an outdoor seating arrangement for a break from the action, and an indoor bar that draws inspiration from a locker room.
