Siam Food Project Dinner

Bangkok Foodies Review – Siam Food Project

I made a concerted effort not to use any sexy effects on these photos and trust me that was tough,But I believe the raw pictures should do it justice enough and partially I wanted to show of my new Chinese-made camera phone. Here-in I declare that The Siam Food Project Dinner was by far in my top three dinners of 2015, and I’ve been to quite a few, just ask my buoyant and groaning backside.

After a harrowing motorcy ride with a dude who doesn’t believe in lanes, helmets or oncoming traffic, much less bother looking at the road at maximum speed! We discovered this little urban oasis of the dim lights of Thavee Mitra 6 Alley In the first elongated room upon entering, we were met with shiny big daddy leather sofas and a coffee machine at the back. The open glassed room to the right featured a long table and open kitchen.

Atmosphere was homely and table settings were classically simple and crystal clean. I scurried behind Chef Mark & Meow, taking photos (yes, I’m one of those) as they prepared our dishes. The two were extremely friendly and accommodating sort of blokes. I was already feeling excited at witnessing their creation and relaxed by the jovial camaraderie between chef and guests at this open kitchen, or possibly it  was the amazing booze (wine) talking.

Speaking of wine, Marco Polo were featuring wines by Domaine Barmes – Buecher. I’m not going to get deep and meaningful about it, particularly since I’m no expert, except it was half the reason why the dinner was such a success. Along with being excellently matched with the food, the biodynamic wine was simply elegant and beautiful, like Sophie, the Audrey Hepburn of vigneronne. Her charm lit up the entire room. I had the best view from my seat. Yay!

The food though, Oh my God, the food! I attempted to write notes but was enjoying myself way too much. Mostly, I was distracted by the fascinatingly complex yet comforting dishes. The honorable mentions go out to: the Ravioli, the Carrot Jerky with curry egg yolk curd and crisp chicken, the Steak Tartare, market oysters, Parmesan and horseradish curd, and the 48 Hours Short Rib. We were all extremely impressed at how simple the combinations appeared yet the flavours were rich and exciting. It was the culmination of the fresh and cured simplicity of the Danish, the kick from the Thai and the elegance of the French. Triple Whammy Dinner!

Shame #BangkokFoodies won’t be able to appreciate this exact dinner again, as the chefs go onto their next project –  supposedly underground (I’ll keep you updated). But I do hope to be ending my night there once again and I’ll be following those guys, that’s for sure. How refreshing to have the best of fine culinary experience without all the frou frou and pretension. I still love a bit of frou frou though.
