Always been a fan of Anantara Siam Bangkok’s initiatives, The Gourmet Festival Bangkok one of Bangkok’s most prestigious and iconic foodie festivals, then there’s the new-ish Guilty Peruvian restaurant helmed by talented Chef Carlos Rodriguez and now this stylish Café Wolseley, pop-up with the Wolseley Hospitality Group to bring the London’s beloved Picadilly restaurant to Bangkok. But watch out…it’s only for a limited time only! Queue pics of enticing food…

From 18 April 2023, Café Wolseley, the group’s first international venture and a reference to its London flagship, will delight Bangkok gastronomes and foodies in European grand café tradition when it opens at Madison Restaurant at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel for only three months. I’ll give you a moment to mark your calendars people.

Café Wolseley in Bangkok is driven by Chef David Stevens, Group Executive Chef at The Wolseley Hospitality Group and former Head Chef at The Wolseley in London. The native Aussie’s career began in Michelin-starred establishments including Fleur de Sel in England; Chateau de Montreuil in France; Dolder Grand in Switzerland; and moving to The Ivy in London before starting his own business, Proof is in the Pudding.  Chef David Stevens joined The Wolseley in London in 2013 as Head Pastry Chef before becoming Head Chef in 2017.

Chef David Stevens tells Bangkok Foodies that Café Wolseley is not all about the replication of style and ingredients of the famed restaurant’s dishes but is conscious of using what is fresh at hand, meaning sourcing fresh local ingredients. Although don’t expect to find Fillets of Lemon Catfish or a“Grapao” Omelette Arnold Bennett version on their menu. The restaurant will continue to bring Bangkokians their core brand of British heritage with European grandeur with their signature classics together with contemporary additions.

Foodies will be elated to finally sample Cafe Wolesley’s quintessential European classics such as their Dressed Dorset Crab and Coq au Vin and Crème Brûlée. Starters include crowd favourites of Petit Plateau de Fruits de Mer, Steak Tartare, and Escargots à la Bourguignonne, plus their popular egg dishes of Omelette Arnold Bennett and Soufflé Suisse.

Main course range from Fillets of Lemon Sole Grenobloise and Whole Native Lobster to Wiener Holstein and Goulash and Spätzle. Desserts include Apple Strudel, Mixed Berry Pavlova, and Coupe Lucian. However, we were impressed by their divinely simple but absolutely ‘bang-on’ Baked Vanilla Cheesecake, so much so we could not resist asking if it were available, just for ‘takeaway’. Yes, it’s that good and yes, it’s available for takeaway.

The temporary Café Wolseley in Bangkok offers a fixed-price menu of two or three courses with choices. Private dining options include a five-course menu for groups of up to eighteen diners can sample a five-course private menu of Classic Wolseley Canapés; Prawn and Avocado Cocktail; Heritage Beetroot Salad; Roast Anjou Chicken with Morels; and yep, that killer, Baked Vanilla Cheesecake!

The dining setting is perfect for a group of discerning foodies, looking for fine grub and tipples. Speaking of tipples, the cocktail menu features Café Wolseley favorites, such as the Mai O’ Mai Tai and Whiskey Velvet.

You can easily spot Café Wolseley in the Parichart Court at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel which is open from Monday to Saturday for lunch from 12.00 pm to 2.30 pm and Monday to Sunday for dinner from 6.00 pm to 10.30 pm.
