Dusit Thani Bangkok Lives on Through Benjarong, Baan Dusit and Their Anicent Recipes
Was it odd that I was one of 2 people of 10 people of all Nations, not to ever step into the Benjarong Thai Restaurant? More to the point, entered the grounds of Baan Dusit Thani, which became the new nestling ground for Dusit Thani Bangkok’s restaurant concepts.
The historic Dusit Thani Bangkok, before its closure, stood for five glorious decades, capturing the hearts of locals and visitors who traversed along the Sala Daeng intersection, although the Dusit Thani Bangkok promises to live on through a grandiose Dusit Central Park project, which uses buzzwords like “mixed-used development”, that is slotted to open in 2024 onwards.
In the meantime, foodies are welcome to discover, or re-discover past culinary glories and delve into new chapters, as Benjarong Thai Restaurant at Baan Dusit Thani introduces a brand-new a la carte menu celebrating Thailand’s rich culinary heritage and featuring a highly curated selection of aristocratic recipes from the late 1800s to the 1930s.
Led by Head Chef Sukanya Ngarmsrikham, whom you should not be fooled by her adorableness as she clearly has killer cooking instincts, leads her culinary team to create flavours that flirt between bold and bright and complex and delicate.
Diners may experience the delicate flavors of dishes like Tom Yum Khmer, or savour the complexity of the ‘Gaeng Kaek’ of Duck Leg. The menu invites you to experience the harmony of sweet, salty, spicy, and sour flavours.
The dishes are in true Thai style and are designed for sharing; from soups and curries to salads and fried delights – everyone’s favourite! Each dish tells a story of ancient Siam’s noble families and the regional influences that shaped Thai flavors.
I have been remiss not to discover it earlier as others so duly noted, Baan Dusit Thani’s beautifully restored historic building sets the stage for an exceptional dining experience. Picture yourself in this stately home, surrounded by lush gardens and vibrant plant life, as you are taken on a culinary journey of ancient Thai cuisine. Benjarong itself feels as though, history comes alive in a setting that feels like a living museum. The furniture and décor, are lovingly transformed from the iconic Dusit Thani Bangkok.
Each restaurant within Baan Dusit Thani boasts its own character and charm. While Benjarong takes center stage this time, Bangkok Foodies should know that a trip to Baan Dusit Thani offers not only one but a collection of dining concepts to dabble in. Thien Duong Vietnamese Restaurant brings the authentic tastes of Vietnam to your table, while Dusit Gourmet & Garden Bar provides a haven for relaxation and indulgence. Each restaurant occupies a unique heritage building, adding to the rich tapestry of culinary concepts.
Baan Dusit Thani is a wondrous way for visitors or local foodies to embark on a blend of captivating culinary adventures that combines history, culture, and flavors all in one place.
