Bangkok Foodies Review – J’AIME by Jean-Michel Lorain

Let me tell you about the first time I was ever put in a fine-food coma. It all started on a typical hot Sunday early afternoon with an invitation to dine at J’aime. We were warmly welcome by the charming Marine Lorain, into a spectacular white and blue dining room with an upside down piano fixed on the ceiling.

No, I wasn’t tripping out but our brilliant smile waiter did offer us generous pours of MOET Chandon as soon as we sat down. Danger! Danger! The ‘Delicatessen’ appetizers (all shared style) came presented in a big “S” bend display with a combination of cold cuts, one most notably “Jean Michel Lorain Quail and Foie Gras Tourte” had us food-porning all over the place.

‘From the Sea’ was a little less exciting but still incredibly delicious, the highlight was the Gratinated Alaskin King Crab.. And wait…there’s more! This is unlike any Brunch, this is like going to one of the best fine dining restaurants in the city to be served freshly cooked/prepared dishes off the menu, choosing anything you desire but at one very fair price. Did I mention free flow booze is included? No more tong tackling tourists for the last piece of cold over- cooked crab or scraping out sloppy stews from the bain marie, this is the fancy pants, bees knees of Sunday brunches.

So we did what any sane person would do -order almost of 1 of everything on the A La Carte Brunch Menu! The dishes which were standout and downright delectable, were the Crispy Pork Belly and Stuffed Sous-vide Quail. The only downside was the over-egging, too many eggy elements in too many dishes for my liking, but that’s just nit-picking.

After a round of dessert and undisclosed amounts of Chandon- the crepe was to-die-for by they way, it was time to go home/ be kicked out. As I lay down for just a moment, knee high boots and all, I woke up 3 hours later as the sun was setting, feeling completely renewed and incredibly satisfied. That was the first (and hopefully not the last) fine-food coma I’ve been induced to. I blame and thank Chef Amerigo and J’aime team for that. 3999THB net per person FREE FLOW MOET Chandon. (2999 food only)
