Bangkok Foodies Drive 15KM to Snag ฿40 Banh Mi

“Omg!! So damn cheap. Normally I pay like ฿120-200”. Admit it, you’ve thought about going the extra kilometre to sample what foodies have been raving about when finding a top product at an absolute steal; according to one foodie in a viral post on the Bangkok Foodies Facebook group, the unassuming Vietnamese shop in question, offers “The most authentic Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwich ) I’ve had in Bangkok. Decent pork, sausage, and pâté with hot sauce, no mayonnaise, no microwave and no menu,” another said, “Ahh this looks exactly like the regular banh mi places in Vietnam. Finally…”

If this doesn’t sound like a great meal, you’ll be amazed to find out that the price of the sandwich is only ฿40 compared to an average price of around ฿120+ if you want to score yourself one of the Best bahn mi in Bangkok in Bangkok’s main districts. There’s one catch, though, that if you want to taste this authentic Banh Mi, you might have to travel beyond Ladprao district. Despite its instant attraction online, some foodies argued that price is relative to positioning, “So they don’t have to pay over-priced rental fee and give great quality at cheap prices..Pretty sure if it was in Thonglor prices would be at least x 5.”

One foodie even lamented, “Lol, why are the good places always in the middle of nowhere”. Not surprisingly, but the tedious travel time clearly hasn’t prevented foodies from catching on to this Banh Mi craze; Our hero of the day said, “Drove 15 km today to get 2 of these sandwiches before the price increase after this hype!”. Maybe it’s time to make a few calls and carpool with hungry friends, for sure!

The famous amongst local, street food stall offers what makes an amazing Banh Mi; crispy on the outside and soft on the inside homemade bread, crunchy and fresh vegetables, arrays of delicious pork fillings including Vietnamese-style Pork Sausage, Chinese Sausage, BBQ pork, finished off with a slather of homemade Pâté. 

The shop can substitute any ingredients to your liking, and while you’re there, don’t miss the ฿30 Vietnamese-style drip coffee along with authentic Beef Pho starting at ฿50. Can’t get there? Delivery is available through selected applications although Pho is not available for delivery. 

As you’re reading this, some hungry souls are on their way to score Banh Mi, “I am not beyond getting in a taxi now. Working from the back seat just to get it. If I didn’t think it would take 3 hours to get there,” said one Bangkok Foodies member. So if you’re craving good old-fashion, authentic Banh Mi and other homemade Vietnamese dishes, we suggest you grab your keys or helmet and beat the rush.
