Warorot Market Chiang Mai Exploration
Warorot Market in Chiang Mai was a wonderful experience. First of all it was easy to get to, there are song taews (trucks with bench seating) that drop you off as the main terminal from almost anywhere within the Chiang Mai suburbs into town for around 15THB.
The usual badass Chiang Mai suspects were present, the Chiang mai Sai Ua (Chiang Mai sausage), the Nam Prik Num (Green Chili paste) and the most impressive selection of Kap Moo (Crackling Pork) you shall ever see. What was really refreshing was the markets were very clean, unlike some of Bangkok’s notoriously grungy markets and when coming upon the butchery and seafood it was actually a pleasure to encounter rather than reel in the rancid smell of dodgy meat.
The live turtles and eels made for an exotic addition although seeing dry live turtles piled upon each other was a little confronting but everything we happened upon appeared to be fresh, clean and of good quality. I say take no planned route but wind up and down the lanes to stop wherever scintillates the senses to witness or taste some of Chiang Mai’s best and intriguing!
For the highlights we recommend the famous Sai Ua, unfortunately we can not recall the exact location but just look at the rush of people hovering around for their fresh fat coil of spicy sausage. The Yen Da Fo (Pink Noodles) at the Market song taew terminal and the famous Chiang Mai’s sweet ‘n’ sour and juicy semi-dried Strawberries sold by the kilo.
