Seafood BBQ & Buffet at Ibis Bangkok Riverside

Bangkok Foodies Review – Ibis Riverside

It’s rather a breathe of fresh air eat at places most of us can afford with a price tag that we can refer to friends on a skimpier budget. Ibis Riverside is the only three star hotel on the riverside, with the same killer view you would get from the expectantly plush and excruciatingly more expensive hotels along the same watery path. We’re not here to stay but to try out their Seafood BBQ.

There isn’t a grand selection in any way, but the three main concerns for a seafood buffet are: 1.Freshness 2.Cooking 3. Value. The TASTE at the Ibis has hit the nail on all three points with freshly steamed or BBQ crabs, prawns, sea snails, fish wrapped in banana leaf and squid. I would mention the scallops but the unbearable saltiness didn’t deserve the kudos. There’s no complaints in the cooking department. The seafood was cooked as it should be, crispy and a tad smokey on the out, tender and juicy on the in. And the price? 790 THB, say no more!

Besides the seafood, the buffet in general is a little dismal, so were the wine and beer options. However, we did go a little bit nuts for their stodgy beef lasagna in bechamel and combined that with their equally stodgy fried potatoes, just like the good ol’ struggling student days. My cousin had two plates, lol.

Would I go there again? Well, for a riverside view at 790THB Net all you can eat fresh BBQ seafood, damn straight I would. But I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way, as it is a pain in the behind to get there, particularly if it’s not in your hood. If they had a their own pier, I would be back there with a pack of sightseeing visitors in moments.

Be sure to book ahead. When we arrived, all riverfront patio seats were reserved, but we still managed to score an outdoor spot, albeit hidden away. And for friends visiting who wish to stay by the river, their (depending on the season) rooms can be less than 2k per night! There is a great little pool and lots of sun lounges, too A sweet place to let out your belt a couple of notches after a hearty meal and bask in the glorious sight.
