Bangkok Foodies Review – Seabreeze Café

Walking through the entrance of Holiday Inn’s themed, mini tropical “jungle” with the deep blue pool oasis and white parasols overhead throws you off the Patong Beach vibe but in the best possible way. The open air seating in the expansive seating area of Seabreeze Cafe is classy yet inviting. If you sit closest to the pool under the skylight before sunrise you’ll be witness to the changing Andaman sea lights.

The preset feast is spread among two main sections; the seafood and desserts in the cool room and the hot meats along the adjoining wall. The local Oysters are pre-shucked sitting on ice, a little rough in taste but luckily, fresher than I expected. Their cold seafood salads were delicious, the sushi roll selection was satisfactory but it was the hot dishes that really got our foodie passion burning.

The freshly cooked steamed mussels in fresh tomato sauce and crab curry were a hit. The roast beef and grilled meats were tender yet not very appetizing in their plastic buckets. The beef stew was my personal favourite and the plentiful choices of rich and saucey Thai food had us coming back for seconds. If you’re armed with little-ones, there’s a small table with fluffy foccacia, pizza and pasta..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

But healthy diners be wary of the amount of oil in some of the stir fry Thai dishes, the seabass fish was swimming in it. Also be aware to eat in a timely manner, in other words- fast!

By 8.40pm the buffet service staff dwindled and I had to track down the meat carvery dude to slice my sashimi which I immediately regret as he butchered it. No fault of his own, the sushi chef was nowhere to be seen. Lastly, they stopped refilling the desserts, so before 9:00pm there was very little variety and maintenance was neglected.

I definitely can’t complain (much) though. The atmosphere is lovely, our service waiter was great and for the variety, the price is absolutely right at 999 Nett! (No drinks). So if you’re tired of looking at flip flops and musty bars, being cajoled into massage parlours and touted into tailor shops then spare an early evening at Seabreeze Cafe. It’s a little holiday from your Holiday.
