MAGGIE CHOO'S X OPPOSITE Pop Up

Bangkok Foodies Review – Maggie Choo’s

Not in Little China but found some Big Trouble, but the kind of trouble that meets me in dark underground den to exploit my taste buds and kicks my ass the next day, yes literally. Opposite x Maggie Choo’s get together for this cheeky pop up. A short and not very sweet but highly savory menu on offer only until the 6th August, prices range from 120THB-350THB.

Do not forgot the pimpest of Old Skool meets New Chinese style offerings such as Lamb Spring Rolls with (go figure) Aunty Ho’s special sauce, The Salt and Pepper Prawns, pop the the entire shellfish in your mouth for some juice Vs crunch battle. My personal favorite would have to be the Green Beans and Pork Belly, the mildly sweet and oily caramelized pork oozes around your tongue and the abundance of chilies flirt with you tolerance threshold.

A disappointment but only minor would be the BAO filled with lamb and cabbage, I found the bun to filling ratio to be a bit off and the texture a little dense. General Tso’s Rabbit was also palate perplexing, incredibly juicy and tender Rabbit but I think General Tso sauce began to reign supreme over any traces of simple gamy goodness.

What surprise me the most was the Drunken Chicken Salad, upon my first mouthful it seemed horribly bland, but once mixing all the cold ingredients- bamboo, corn and a huge chunk of chicken crackling with the special sauce, it was an exotic, satisfying new taste sensation.
