Dee Lite at DoubleTree by Hilton Sukhumvit

Bangkok Foodies Review – Dee Lite

I’ve had my fair share of standard hotel buffets over the years. So, imagine my ‘delight’ (sorry, couldn’t resist), once they opened the doors to Dee Lite at DoubleTree by Hilton Sukhumvit. The dining room  was decked out with geometric lamps, grand daddy ‘leather’ sofas, retro paraphernalia and photographic prints framed along the walls.

More notable was the lighting. Finally, a hotel brunch room with lighting that actually gets you in the mood! Be it a hangover or date, or just simply in chillax mode.. I could have stayed all day. The brunch runs from 12:00 – 15:00 which felt more than substantial, but by around 12:30, well-heeled ladies and polished men rushed the tables.

I saw soon enough what they’re politely jostling for. As  the name suggest, there’s Goong (Prawns) presented in various ways, cooked with fresh and for the most part, with precision.

There was Goong  steamed, grilled, in spicy salads, a large assortment of sushi, and cooked-to-order Tom Yum Goong or Tom Kha Gai. Impressive is the tower of Goong, a tiered tray of decoratively placed Goong that reaches the ceiling. The kids will be left in awe while the adults frantically Instagram.

The highlight would have to have been the abundance of fresh river prawns piled into small tubs, ready to be slapped onto the grill. Yet, be sure to remind them not to over-cook. Our first round was dry and chewy but the second serving was spectacularly juicy. Another let down were the oysters which were also dried out and lacking their natural juices. Not sure why buffets in Bangkok see fit to remove such an integral part.

But it’s not all see food seafood; their roast meats corner is awesome. The German ham and particularly the roast lamb chops were extremely tender.

Shame when I went for my second round of chops, they had run out. There’s also plenty for kids with ragout and carbonara pasta, fresh juices and an array sweet, bite size and interactive desserts, like the marshmallow dipped in hot chocolate sauce. Don’t be surprised if you suffer food coma and pass-out on one of their Grand daddy sofas like one lucky dude did (refer to last pic).

This brunch is perfect for couples, small groups, large family, locals, visitors, and well…everyone really. The quality is high, the seafood fresh, the dining area is immaculately clean and charming in its own right.

Best of all is the price! 1,150 THB Net with soft drink is a killer deal and it’s now on my top go-to list for Sunday buffets, given that you don’t have an aversion to seafood and shellfish. Although I still dream of poolside, OMGoong lives up to is name.
