Tatsumi Japanese Cuisine

Bangkok Foodies Review – Tatsumi

I attended the opening the new restaurant – Tatsumi, which has opened at 2nd floor Pathumwan Princess Hotel, Bangkok (MBK Center). It’s sort of a surreal experience to walk through this old-school favourite mall to get to the restaurant. One random tourist even tried it on with a “hey baby” as I walked by, adorned in a sexy chunky yellow-gold chain, counterfeit polo shirt and a plastic bag full of 799 THB jeans.

The restaurant is a lot smaller than I expected but has a certain warmth to it. We enjoyed the small bites of Sashimi and Sushi. The seafood was of excellent quality except that the partially frozen Salmon naturally let us down. The menu is a mix of both traditional Japanese foods and popular Japanese items, along with signature dishes created by Executive Chef Tanaka Shigeru, previously the chef at Okura Hotels & Resorts.

There is also a rotating selection of craft sake from Japan which we took full advantage of. The (I presume) half Japanese lady was very obliging on tastings and her knowledge of Sake was most impressive. Plus she gives big pours.

If you’re in the area it may be worth checking out. Their sets seem very reasonable. From November to December 2016, “Tatsumi Tasting Menu” priced at THB 1,500.- net per person and THB 1,800.- net per person with additional sake flight pairing.
