Phuket Foodies Review Guide: Rendez-Vous Phuket Town

An outstanding variety of international dishes, classic Thai favorites, French-inspired meals and decadent desserts is what you can expect when dining at Rendez-Vous. Fine attention to culinary detail, high quality ingredients and excellent flavors make this hip bistro a strong contender for one of the best restaurants on the island.

Located in the heart of Phuket Town, Rendez-Vous has taken up residence in a colonial-style shophouse on Takuapa Road. A small terrace gives way to a tastefully decorated venue with a chic, minimalist design. Moody lighting, colorful splashes of local art, vintage floor tiles and high ceilings add character to the upscale bistro, a true hidden gem that has gained its reputation by word of mouth.

The owner of Rendez-Vous, Mr. Ae, has a fine appreciation for wines, which is reflected on the restaurant’s wine list. It’s an excellent mix of vintage and modern bottles, however, the house wine tastes lovely as well. Rounding out the drinks list is an appealing selection of cocktails and beers.

If you are looking to dine in an intimate setting, Rendez-Vous definitely sets the mood. The candlelit tables line the walls of the first floor of the bistro, giving each table a bit of a romantic feel. Upstairs, there is an enclosed dining area perfect for a larger group of friends as well as a few smaller tables which overlook the entire restaurant.

The food at Rendez-Vous is delightful, and the menu is varied enough to sate even the fussiest of appetites. A personal favorite includes the spicy ‘Fried Larb Rendez-Vous’ from the Appetizer Menu. It’s a crispy, fried version of a classic Thai dish. The bold flavors are tangy, spicy and a bit salty, but absolutely delicious and a great way to start a me

Further recommendations include the Homemade Ravioli with Cream Sauce and Parma Ham. Super creamy, the parma ham is melt in your mouth soft and a nice touch tucked into the ravioli squares. During my recent dining experience at Rendez-Vous, I kept to the Parma Ham theme and chose a Grilled Pork Fillet Roll with Parma Ham, Cheese and Asparagus as my main, and the dish did not disappoint. It was evident that the asparagus was market fresh and the pork roll was tender and juicy. Portions are good size at Rendez-Vous, and if you are going on a date or with a group of friends, I highly advise to order a selection of dishes and share.

The bistro does dessert well, and their Sweet Treat menu is to die for! You must try the Crepes Suzette. Classically French, the dessert is served with a sauce of caramelized sugar and butter, orange juice & zest and Grand Marnier. The tableside performance to flambe the dessert is Instagram-worthy. If you’re more of a chocolate lover, the Belgian Chocolate Tart is a decadent treat.

With the exception of Wednesday, Rendez-Vous Coffee Wine Dine is open daily from 2:00pm to 11:45pm. Attire is casual, and the food is modern European with a French influence. It’s a charming little bistro that is sure to impress, and perfect for a casual dinner or a romantic evening.
