Bangkok Foodies Review – Vogue Lounge

Stunning decor and chic ambiance as per expected, the patio decked out in 20s furnishing is quite spectacular with the enormous crane and sleeping construction making for a cool inadvertent “industrial meets slick” foreground view.

The bathrooms, yes really, were also a highlight. The ladies toilets, complete with full bodied mirrors for that selfie (get your money’s and outfit’s worth) fix, are worth powdering your nose several times. But we didn’t come here to talk of the vintage Vogue poster art and wonderful French Art Deco tiling but of the food and drink!

To begin with, the cocktails were up to par with the surroundings. Named after each iconic fashionable city, including Bangkok (wink). The Paris and the  Tokyo were my favorites, fresh, perfectly balanced and not sickly sweet.  The opulent crystal glassware was so lovely, one would be tempted to slip one in the handbag. And no, I did not!

The micro dishes or tapas, or whatever they like to label them, were also very delicious. It’s apparent the meticulous care is taken to create dishes that literally arrive to your table presented as art.

lobsterHowever, some dishes were a little on the over sauced side; like the lobster. Alone, the lobster was delicately luscious, but the sour vegetable and creamy sauce overpowered the senses. Similarly, with the uni and salmon dish, you could barely distinguish their existence at the bottom of the thick buttery sauce pool. But I guess it’s a matter of variety. You can taste the enormous skill of French hands which masters these sauces. But for some dishes, it may have been refreshing to combine some Thai ground elements with the French flair.

All in all, an incredibly good experience. Pricey but worth it to treat yourself or take out a hot date. Servings are 350 THB and painfully small. So, if you had to choose, go for the cooked-to- perfection Lamb, the foie gras or the lobster. But don’t expect to be full for under 1K., Fill up on good drink if you need. Then, grab a “traveler” sausage roll or sticky almond croissant from Dean & Deluca. Mahanakhon Bangkok is  on your way out. You’ll feel lighter in the wallet but high on the decadent and divine.
