This one-of-a-kind ‘emotional’ dining journey is about to shake things up in Bangkok’s culinary scene.

“Allow things to happen the way they are,” a simple message printed in all caps on a plain white card greets every diner at the table. This is the only instruction for the guests for what’s to come at Karmakamet Conveyance

The brand has come a long way from its origin as an aromatherapy brand. Expanding into cafes and diners, finally, it is morphing into a dinner-only, fine-dining restaurant and this has to be one of the most anticipated reopenings of late. The restaurant has one of the most established female chefs in the country manning the helm. Chef Jutamas “ Som “ Theantae, and her chef’s team has been working hard to prepare for the reopening of this fine-dining, dinner-only restaurant concept.

Karmakamet team will bring diners its borderless food and dining concept where each course and every ingredient is presented in its truest forms. This has been the key to Chef Som’s cooking is techniques. Offering the experience of bliss through food, using a combination of flavors to create unique journey for each diner.

The introduction and sequence is a mystery. Even the menu gives nothing away. Displaying only the names of each course such as ‘Grains’, ‘Warmth’, ‘Rainforest’, ‘Village’, ‘Life’ for example with some, albeit, very short and vague clues below. It sheds little, if any light at all, of what to expect. But trust Chef Som to make sure that every course packs significant punches.

The tasting menu here will evoke nostalgia, fond memories and practically ‘shang-haied’ all diners on Chef Som’s personal culinary journey, her travels, her reinterpretation and reiteration of both traditional and modern cooking techniques with a fantastic blend between East and West flavors.

This would be the best time to throw out all preconceived ideas of what a fine dining dinner should be and just let go. Eat what’s served. Enjoy what is, and keep on guessing what actually went in to each plate, until the end of the meal when the answers are revealed, that is.

This is the result of years and decades of experience and practice filtered and combined into a very unique dining journey.

The journey began with Chef Som’s very own 40-year-old ‘Miracle Water’ in a shot. Some of the notable dishes are ‘Warmth’ — a serving of clear reddish-tint hot broth that brings back comforting memories of family and home; or the ‘Rainforest’ — selection of greens covered in curious green paste that reminds one of the scent of wet grass on a rainy day in the mountains where the air is fresh and clean.

Each course is paired with champagne, the best reward after a good day’s work, according to Chef Som.
