Bangkok Foodies Review – Man Fu Yuan

I rave about this place to friends, not specifically for the dim sum alone or the tea which is excellent, but the main menu items will make you dream of coming back for more.

Namely the crispy pork which is not deep fried but baked! Meaning less oil and more porky intensity trapped in bites that are crispy, chewy and tender all rolled into one. I”m disappointed not to get a shot of the Smoked Tea Duck, in all its deep brown glistening glory. It’s like no other I’ve tried, the duck is extremely moist, the sauce highly aromatic of rich tea and the taste, potent and smokey.

Don’t expect everything to be a miracle, but there are some stand-out items which must be investigated. For me it’s in the top 5 of Chinese “dim sum” restaurant experiences. Although, admittedly I haven’t been to so many. Below is a line that didn’t make it to print but feel the foodies will appreciate the detail and technicality that goes into the dishes.

‘Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it’ – Confucius. It’s all in the details. MFY tea bags are made from recycled corn husks which would otherwise go to waste. Prawn dim sum contain 100% whole prawn, not mystery meats and each individual bowl of rice is traditionally steamed to ensure every grain texture is honored. Respect.’
