          More than 100 chefs, along with restaurateurs, entrepreneurs, farmers, food writers, scientists and activists will be converging in Ubud, Bali from 26–28 April 2019. Just some of the Chefs in the mighty mix are local Bali based chefs Ray Adriansyah and Eelke Plasmeijer of Locavore (#42 Asia’s 50 Best), Jimmy Lim Tyan Yaw of J L Studio in Taiwan (Miele One To Watch 2019 by Asia’s 50 Best), and Jordy Navarra of Toyo Eatery (#43 Asia’s 50 Best) , who brings his Filipino flavors to the forefront. Debbie Teoh, chef and cookbook author will represent Peranakan cuisine, and there will even be contemporary Italian cuisine by Luca Fantin of Il Ristorante Luca Fantin in Tokyo ( 1 Michelin Star / #18 Asia’s 50 Best ) that will make its way onto the table.


         

           From our neck of the woods, will be Thailand’s golden boy ThiTid Tassanakajohn, Chef Ton of Le Du Bangkok ( #14 Asia’s 50 Best /1 Michelin Star) with his signature modern take on Thai cuisine and relative newcomer on the scene Deepanker Khosla (Chef DK) of Haoma ( #13 BK Top Tables / Bangkok’s 11 by Bangkok Post) who is shaking things up with Bangkok’s only urban farm restaurant serving Neo Indian cuisine. Meanwhile Pastry Chef Yannis Janssens, one of the Top Ten Pastry chefs in the USA before taking over pastry and baking at l’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Bangkok (1 Michelin star) will also be wowing the crowds with his contemporary sweets.

      

          Chef Ton will be cooking a special dinner themed,“Michelin-starred Modern Thai“ at Seasalt in Alila Seminyak on the 24th April, he will also be part of an incredible showdown for a “Best of Asiacollaboration dinner at Nusantara by Locavore on the 27th April with Jimmy Lim Tyan Yaw, Jordy Navarra, Ray Adriansyah of Locavore, Darren Teoh of Dewakan and Putu Dodik Sumarjana of Nusantara by Locavore.

       

          Chef DK will be collaborating with Chef Nic Vanderbeeken of Apéritif Restaurant & Bar on the 27th April for the Haoma x Apéritif special dinner. The restaurant is positioned at the incredibly stunning Viceroy Bali. This will be one of the UFF’s most exciting and anticipated events, given the two chefs are among Asia’s hottest new rising stars on the gastronomic scene.  


 

            Meanwhile Chef Yannis will present a smoky dessert on stage on 27 April, before teaming up with Alexander McKinstry of Apéritif at Viceroy Bali on the 28th.

   

          Besides these incredible Special Event Dinners that promise a cross-culture of dishes with Indonesian cuisine as the star, the festival will be running a ton of awesome programs that entail workshops, kitchen demonstrations and tours (many free) that foodies can get really excited about.           It’s not too late to extend your Songkran (Thai New Year) holiday and take a trip to Bali which is a short 4-ish hour flight away. This is not only an opportunity to taste what Asia’s leading chefs have to offer, but also to learn from culinary educators, be inspired by the food industry provocateurs.
